The public is invited to the second “Meet Your Legislators” forum on Saturday, Mar. 19, at 10 am at the Welcome Center, 201 E. Lincoln Way, Jefferson. The event is sponsored by the board of Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County as a non-partisan community service. An informed electorate was a strongly held belief of former President Jefferson.
Questions will be taken from the audience in writing submitted on cards to the moderator.
State Senator Jesse Green and Representative Phil Thompson, who represent Greene County in the Iowa legislature, have committed to attend the forum. Longtime Jefferson journalist and retired editor/publisher of the Jefferson Bee and Herald Rick Morain will serve as moderator.
In his first term, Green represents Senate District 24 which is composed of Greene, Boone and Hamilton counties and portions of Webster and Story counties. He serves on the following committees: Agriculture, Human Resources, Labor and Business Relations (Vice Chair), Natural Resources and Environment, Veterans Affairs and Ways and Means.
Thompson, in his second term, represents House District 47 and includes Greene and most of Boone County. A Jefferson native, Thompson serves on the following committees: Appropriations, Economic Growth, Education, Government Oversight and Veterans Affairs.
Both Green and Thompson now live in Boone county.
